François Boisrond
Artist, Painter
1987
No elitism, but art for everyone. Bright, lively colours, and a schematic graphic design, with shapes that clash and recall comic strips. The work of young French artist François Boisrond, who formed part of the Figuration Libre movement that emerged during the 1980s, could be described as a visual translation of free jazz: one that perfectly complemented the neo-pop style Pierre Keller began to use for public images of the Festival. This dynamic, joyful poster consists of black and white faces, instruments in primary colours and a multitude of rapidly drawn symbols.
