The work of young French artist François Boisrond, who formed part of the Figuration Libre movement that emerged during the 1980s, could be described as a visual translation of free jazz: one that perfectly complemented the neo-pop style Pierre Keller began to use for public images of the Festival. This dynamic, joyful poster consists of black and white faces, instruments in primary colours and a multitude of rapidly drawn symbols.
